Raising Money For Maleria
During the 2006 Prize Giving evening, held at the Mayfair Hotel the Club was delighted to be joined by James Hickman, five times World Champion, Commonwealth Games gold medallist and British Olympian.
James is a keen supporter of the World Swim for Malaria charity and we were delighted to be able to raise funds for this, by way of running a raffle during the evening's celebrations. The charity has an ongoing fund raising campaign with over one million swimmers from around the world aiming to participate. The money raised will contribute towards the purchase of durable mosquito nets in an attempt to halt the spread of malaria which is still responsible for the death of 3000 children, a day, every day.
Whilst in Jersey, James also provided two coaching sessions the following day. He said of the sessions "they were very good, listened well, and took on a lot of the points".
James thoroughly enjoyed his visit to Jersey, which was his second in six months, saying - "There is a fantastic atmosphere in Jersey Swimming Club and I love coming over ... I'm really pleased to be here, there's a great social club bonding atmosphere at the Club and its great to be part of it, and to be invited to come and be part of it is even nicer."
Vice President Mr Tony Bedford with James Hickman. After many years service to the Club Tony retired as Vice President and from teaching during 2006.
